FAQs
You can contact us either via email or by using the contact us section of this website. You could telephone us – our dedicated number is 07443 490842. Please use this number if you need to speak (text, call or WhatsApp) with us while your child is in session / to inform us if your child will be absent due to illness (our preference is for you to use Studybugs). Please bear in mind that it is not always possible for us to answer the phone during sessions (messages can be left out of hours) as we prioritise the needs of children attending the setting.
We strongly advise parents to visit Miss B’s Nursery website and complete the online Application Form. There is a non-refundable registration fee payable to secure a place, and a £100 deposit, with £50 credited back to you on your first invoice.
- We have a uniform of a fleece and a T-shirt bearing the Miss B’s Nursery logo, which children are expected to wear if a part of Preschool Plaza. As they are the big kids! And also help the transition they’ll make into school soon!!
- In the course of their “messy play” and developing independence in using the toilet, Miss B’s Nursery children should not be worried about spoiling their clothes.
- Trousers, skirts and other clothing should be simple and without elaborate fastenings such as braces or zips. Please avoid sending girls to school wearing long skirts as they get caught up in the bikes and are not suitable for independence at toilet time.
- Open-toed sandals are not appropriate footwear for nursery, and please avoid shoes with laces unless your child can tie them independently.
- All footwear should be suitable for climbing, running, skipping, cycling etc. To make the most of their outdoor play, children should bring a warm jacket and waterproof clothing, including wellingtons, every day. Crocs are useful summer footwear, especially for water play.
- Please mark all removable garments, footwear and sun hats with your child’s name. Every Miss B’s Nursery child is given two laminated name tags, one for self-registration and the other to identify items on your child’s cloakroom peg.
Upon arrival at Miss B’s Nursery, children should be clean and dry. In the event of any “little accidents” during a session, we will change the child’s clothing as required. Depending on your child's toilet training status, you should provide a change of clothes in a named bag to be left in the cloakroom.
Generally, children who are not feeling well should not attend Miss B’s Nursery, and you should notify us without delay via our dedicated system to let us know if your child will not be attending.
Children should not attend Miss B’s Nursery if they have a condition that has necessitated the administration of Calpol/Nurofen or similar medicines, as this can mask symptoms and the child may be infectious. Children who are suffering from certain conditions, including those who have had a bout of sickness/diarrhoea, should not return to Miss B’s Nursery until 48 hours after their condition has cleared up.
If your child has an infectious disease should notify us as soon as possible so that we may alert other parents, as necessary. In the event of your child becoming infested with head lice, this condition must be treated before the child returns to nursery. Parents who ask Miss B’s Nursery staff to administer prescribed medicine (or in some cases over-the-counter medication) to their children must complete our Instruction to Administer Medicine Form. Staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid, and in the event of your child becoming unwell while at Miss B’s Nursery, we will use our judgement to phone you to come and take your child home, or we will comfort your child until you arrive at the end of the session. In a medical emergency, we would of course telephone for an ambulance.
If you plan to go on holiday during term time, please notify us without delay, as this information must be recorded and will still need to be charged, as our staff schedules will still be adhered to. If your child is unwell or will be absent for any other reason, please contact us to let us know, as all absences have to be explained in the daily register sheet.
Settling-in sessions are arranged for any new child joining the setting. These are organised so that the child can experience different parts of the day. The first session is with parents/carers and is an opportunity to gain information about the child. It is also an opportunity for parents/carers to meet the staff and ask any questions they may have. We take your lead! You are welcome to stay as long as you like to benefit your child, however many sessions and however long each session is, to make both you and your child feel comfortable!
When children are transitioning to school, meetings will take place between the Key Person and the teacher at the new school. Nursery visits are organised to discuss the transition, and summative assessments are provided to help teachers understand where the child is developmentally.
Your child’s Key Person, supported by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), will work closely with you to ensure that your child’s needs are being fully met. Your child will have their own SEN Support Plan (SSP) or an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), depending on their specific needs. Regular progress meetings and transition meetings will be held to review your child’s progress, and next steps will be discussed with parents, the Key Person, and the SENCO. We are able to work alongside other professionals and jointly agree on targets for the SSP.
We treat every child as an individual. Using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, we plan for each child’s individual needs. Any targets we set for a child need to be enjoyable and achievable. We will identify and provide additional resources and support for individual children where needed. Your child’s learning will be documented on Tapestry, our online learning platform, and you will have access to this. Home observations can be added, and chats between setting staff and parents or carers are available.
We have Progress checks at age 2, formative and summative reports in place to track children’s development. Parents’ evenings are held twice a year to discuss learning and development. We may sometimes ask you to help us at home with some of the activities that we do at nursery, to support your child’s learning. Outside professionals also provide relevant resources for us to work with in nursery, and will provide a second copy for you and your child to use at home. Verbal contact with your Key Person takes place daily.
We also use Makaton with children throughout the nursery as an additional means of communication.
We operate an open-door policy and are always available to discuss any concerns or queries you may have about your child's learning and development.
Parents are invited to parents’ evenings to discuss their child’s progress and to access the learning journal online through the Tapestry platform.
