🍎 Safer Eating & Safer Weaning at Miss B’s

At Miss B’s Nursery, we want mealtimes to be safe, relaxed and enjoyable. Our practice follows the EYFS Statutory Framework and the DfE Early Years Foundation Stage nutrition guidance, including requirements on safer eating, weaning, allergies, and choking prevention.

On your Child Registration Form, we will ask about any allergies, dietary requirements, and/or preferences to ensure your child's safety. If anything changes or develops, we kindly ask that parents share it with us so we can always ensure your child's safety and best interests.

Safe & Supervised Mealtimes

Children are closely supervised whenever they are eating; every member of staff at Miss B’s holds a current full Paediatric First Aid certificate. Food is prepared and served appropriately for each child's age and stage of development to minimise choking risks.

LifeVac – Additional Emergency Protection

LifeVac Airway Clearance Device at Miss B's Nursery

Alongside our safer-eating procedures and Paediatric First Aid training, we have a LifeVac airway clearance device available at the nursery.

LifeVac does not replace recognised choking first aid. It is available as an additional last-resort emergency measure where appropriate, in accordance with our procedures and the manufacturer's guidance.

👶 Safe Weaning

For our youngest children, we work closely with parents and carers throughout their baby's weaning journey. The transition from first foods to mashed, blended, chopped, and more textured foods is gradual and is led by each baby's individual developmental readiness, rather than by their age alone. Assumptions are not be made based on age.

We maintain ongoing communication with families about foods and textures already introduced at home, as well as allergies and dietary requirements, to help each baby progress at a pace appropriate for them.

We ask all parents to try the 14 main allergens at home first, before we can introduce them into their diet at nursery.

14 Main Allergens Guide

Our aim is simple: safe weaning, safe eating and happy mealtimes for every child.
