🌙 Safer Sleep at Miss B’s

At Miss B’s Nursery, we take safer sleep extremely seriously. Our procedures follow the EYFS Statutory Framework and safer-sleep guidance from The Lullaby Trust, helping us provide a safe, comfortable and closely supervised sleep environment for every child.
💤 Safe Sleep Spaces
Every child sleeps in an age-appropriate cot or bed.
We follow The Lullaby Trust's safer-sleep principles: babies are placed on their backs in a clear cot, with a firm, flat mattress, and their sleep space is kept free from pillows, cot bumpers, soft toys and other unnecessary items.
Dummies
If you would like your child to have a dummy while they sleep, we will need your express permission (included in your Child Registration Form).
The Lullaby Trust safer-sleep guidance advises that using a dummy for every sleep, including daytime naps, may reduce the risk of SIDS.
For your nursery, the key points are:
- If a baby routinely uses a dummy for sleep, it can be offered when they are settled down to sleep.
- If the dummy falls out once the baby is asleep, you do not need to put it back in.
- Never attach the dummy to the baby's clothing, cot, a cord, clip or toy while sleeping because of strangulation/choking risks.
- Dummies should be individually labelled, kept hygienically and never shared.
- Ideally, dummy use for sleep should be consistent rather than used occasionally.
- The Lullaby Trust advises gently stopping dummy use between 6 and 12 months.
- For a breastfed baby, parents may wish to wait until breastfeeding is well established before introducing one.
🌡️ A Comfortable 16–20°C
Our dedicated baby sleep room is air-conditioned and temperature monitored, helping us maintain the recommended 16–20°C sleep environment and reduce the risk of babies becoming too hot.
👀 Trained Practitioners & Regular Checks
All of our practitioners are trained in safer sleep. Sleeping children are closely supervised and practitioners carry out and record regular physical sleep checks throughout their sleep.
We work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine while ensuring that all sleep arrangements at nursery remain consistent with our safer-sleep procedures.
Our approach has regard to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework and follows safer-sleep recommendations from The Lullaby Trust, including guidance specifically produced for early years and childcare settings.
